However, recently she’s found that she can reconnect with her human side, and become more human again. Her friendship with Greg, and old high school boyfriend, confirmed that. She’s also learning how to be a mother from taking care of Eric, who used to be in Jaguar’s care. She is a bit vulnerable, but hides it behind a mask of calm and danger. History: Turquoise Draka was born as Catherine Minate. She had a loving father and a little brother who she would do anything to protect. Her father’s favorite saying to her was “Some people use things; they destroy. You’re a creator, a builder. A healer, not a user.” All of that changed when she met Daryl.
Mr. Minate took Cathy to New York for her eighteenth birthday, to see a musical. They got in late, and Cathy stayed in the lobby, where she was greeted by a beautiful young man. She thought she was safe, because she was surrounded by people. She didn’t know that Daryl’s line was physically weak, but is incredibly powerful when it comes to using their minds. He bit Cathy, but didn’t manage to catch her mind fully. She fought, causing enough panic that people were starting to get suspicious, and he had to leave.
Daryl came back, killing her father and brother before Cathy’s eyes. He took her to be a slave, and did his best to break her down. For a few years, she was his slave, a decoration and an outlet for his rage. One day, Nathanial, another vampire, came and visited Daryl. He saw Cathy and, taking pity on her, gave her a knife, instructing her to make sure she hit Daryl’s heart. Alas, she missed his heart, the knife skidding along his ribcage. Daryl threw her away, cursing. He instructed Nathanial to get rid of her. Nathanial wordlessly took her away, helped her heal, then gave her a new identity: Turquoise Draka, mercenary of the Crimson guild.
Her and Ravyn were hired by Jaguar (secretly, they were to find out who their employer was later) to kill Jeshickah. They impersonated slaves at Midnight, and were taken in. Jaguar took a fancy to Turquoise, but Daryl recognized her immediately. Turquoise escaped with Jaguar’s help, along with Eric, who Jaguar feared would be hurt by Jeshickah if he remained. Daryl nearly stopped her, but neither had time to kill the other. Turquoise and Ravyn fought for control of the Crimson guild, and Turquoise won that, and official freedom. She could never be a slave again. She gave the title to Ravyn, then returned to Midnight to kill Daryl. She succeeded.
