In every culture, and every story, vampires are different. As stated many different times, the vampires at this site are ones based on Amelia Atwater-Rhodes novels. The admin character, Siete, was the first of the vampires. Here is a list of all the characteristics and rules of these vampires. The biggest one is that they see themselves above humans in the food chain. They are predators, who see humans as cattle.
1. The initial view of a vampire is a creature of beauty and mystery. Humans find themselves attracted to them, though there is something eerie about them that is quite offputting.
2. Vampires have senses better than any mortal creature. Their sense of smell alone is twenty times better than a bloodhound. They also have very good senses of sight and hearing.
3. Vampires are experts at using their minds and manipulating aura. They can bring themselves somewhere as fast as a thought, and stronger vampires can use their mind to change shape. The stronger a vampire is, the better they are at fighting with their mind. Very powerful ones can latch on to someone's aura and use it against them, read mortals' minds, and attack things with their mind. However, the weaker a vampire is, the less adept they are at using their mind.
4. Vampires have weaknesses! Though they recover from injuries amazingly fast and mortal weapons cause no permanent injury, they can be harmed. Knives embedded with magic, mostly used by vampire hunters, cause permanent damage, and a strike through the heart always kills
5. Most vampire myths are false. The sun, silver, and garlic have no negative effect on vampires. Nor do they sleep in coffins. As a vampire grows in age, its reflection fades, and really old vampires have no reflection at all.
6. A vampire's final strength comes from several sources. One that is completely unchangeable is how much they fight when they are changed. If a person doesn't fight, they don't have power. Getting your blood taken is a seductive feeling, but it hurts if you fight. Power comes from that pain.
7. Another thing that determines vampire's strength is what they feed on. Vampires who only feed on animals or willing humans are weak and easily manipulated. Only those who kill humans to feed are strong.
8. Vampires are not just immortal humans. They have the senses and hunger of a predator, with the cold cunning of a human. They suffer, but they are also free. Though some vampires still act like prey, most have to be born with a predatory mind set to survive.
9. Strong vampires keep emotions at arm's length. A vampire's goal in life is to survive and hold power, and emotions can cause one to hesitate at a crucial moment. Those who show emotions are scorned.
10. Not all vampires are extremely powerful. Some, like Aubrey and Risika, are extremely powerful. They can use their minds to manipulate anyone and anything. However, most vampires have intermediate to weak power, and have to fight to remain immortal.
11. Most vampires reside in a town called New Mayhem. It is completely unknown to humans, but all vampires know of it. They keep it secret from the witches, because it is their main nest. In New Mayhem, no ID is taken, everything is free, and both humans and vampires can intermingle there.
12. Vampires are proud. They will be subtle and biting, like wolves facing each other. They do know their place, so a weak vampire will never challenge a very strong one. However, if two vampires of equal power fight, they will bluff, manipulate, and fight until one of them wins.
